Across its service range, the Lucion ethos is to listen to you and streamline our delivery of services to meet your needs. Our clients come back to us because they appreciate our no-nonsense, pragmatism and proven record of delivery to meet deadlines. With Lucion, you know where you stand and you can have confidence that your project will be completed to schedule. We’ll guide you through the entire process covering everything from planning requirements for renewable energy solutions to sending our specially trained team of installers round to fit your product.

Lucion will be with you every step of the way.

We offer an all embracing service eliminating the need for you to manage and liase with a series of contractors and officials from ground workers to planning officers. We do everything for you and act as your only necessary contact throughout the entire process.

Want to find out more about the process?

Before you can enjoy the benefits of self sufficient, renewable, low cost heating, a series of steps must be undertaken to make your installation go smoothly.

Building Survey

Crucially, the first step is to ensure that a ground source heat installation will be the best option for you. If your property is not suitable, we will tell you why and give you advice on how it could become suitable. Heat pumps may not always be the answer, but simple solutions such as additional insulation are sometimes required in order for you to benefit from them. A survey estimates the heat demand of the property and whether this demand can be reduced. We will also look into any planning requirements for GSHP’s that you may face.

If we can’t give you a saving, we won’t recommend our system.

Land Surveys

This phase is crucial to design systems that can be installed safely, legally and that will operate at their optimum efficiency:

  • Planning Requirements For GSHP: The installation of microgeneration schemes may require planning permission. Alternatively you may not get planning permission without a heat pump (in order to comply with the 2006 building regulations, new builds may not receive planning permission without provision for renewable energy installations!).
  • Land assessment: Here the presence of other services eg: sewers, electricity, gas, will be determined. Historical / archaeological implications will be investigated eg: the presence of mining activity under a proposed deep GSHP bore hole site.
  • Physical assessment: The physical attributes of the site and building will be assessed eg:
    • area (grounds and roof)
    • aspect (grounds and roof)
    • temperature of soil
    • land use (lawn, garden, car park)
    • mass loading upon area (loading eg by vehicles above may dislodge / rupture pipes installed within the ground).
  • Geo-technical assessment:
    • measure soil saturation
    • thermal conductivity of soil
    • specific heat capacity of soil, suitability of the soil for shallow GSHPs
    • suitability of the underlying strata for deep bore hole GSHPs.

Engineering Design

This phase can be considered in two phases:

  • Internal Design / alterations: design & recommend measures within the building to reduce energy demandinsulation assessment
    • double glazing
    • installation of under floor heating
    • advise to turn off appliances on stand-by and other simple ways to save you money.
  • External design:
    • recommend which technologies are appropriate for your site.
    • calculate engineering designs to bring you the optimum operational efficiency from calculated / estimated on-site of energy demand and the predicted energy supply from the heat source.

Specialist Installation of Hardware

This phase can be sub-divided into the various technologies that may be suited to the individual site.

  • GSHP Installers – Installation of shallow and deep GSHP:
    • preparation of ground
    • notify other ground users that area is to be temporarily out of use (playing field / car park / access ways / pavements)
    • move superficial objects – vehicles / paving stones / pot plants / shallow rooted plants
  • Installation of shallow GSHP
    • ground works: dig a trench to predetermined specification measured plan.
  • Installation of deep GSHP
    • drilling: excavate bore hole in ground using specialist drilling rig.
